Established in April 2006, our business is founded on retail business consultants who combine senior retail experience & research expertise with absolute competency and trustworthiness.  With over 70 years combined experience, we’ve been round the block a few times and understand our industry and that of our clients inside & out.

We’re dedicated to helping our clients achieve performance improvement – increased asset values & profits.  We do this by researching shopping habits, identifying & exploiting linkages between our clients’ businesses and the consumer market in which they operate.  We are fortunate in our clients who continue to provide us with exciting opportunities to build on our experience in major research projects that lead the field in the UK & Ireland.

Mark Millward – Managing Director & Lead Consultant

Mark is a retail business consultant who works at the interface between shopping locations, consumer demand, retail sales & profitability and asset value.  He has worked with retailers, shopping centre owners & developers and airports in the UK & Ireland. He works with clients to develop evidence based performance improvement strategies.  Mark has developed sophisticated methods to analyse & interpret consumer demand and retail potential.  He has achieved some notable firsts in his career including in 2002 introducing routine P&L analysis of tenants throughout a UK regional shopping centre.  This experience is the foundation for our thought leadership in the field of tenant profitability and sustainable rent.

Mark holds an MA in Property Valuation & Law from the Cass Business School and a BSc in Geography. Prior to founding Millward Associates he was Head of Consultancy – FootFall Ltd (2002 – 2006) and a Partner with FSP (1996 – 2001). Between 1983 and 1995 Mark held a variety of operational management positions with Harrods and John Lewis.

Clive Vaughan – Associate Consultant

Clive has worked as a business analyst and strategic planner with Sainsbury’s, ASDA and Thomas Cook where he headed up the Retail Development Division. He has worked as a retail business consultant since 1991 at Verdict Research, Retail Intelligence and Emerging Market Economics. He has extensive experience conducting research on shopping habits & analysing markets to assist companies with their strategic decision making in areas such as new market entry; retail positioning to take advantage of changing trends; price positioning, consumer attitudes and new product ranges.

Helping retailers to develop their store networks in the UK and overseas is a key part of his skills and clients include Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, Mothercare and B&Q. Clive has carried out several retail due diligence studies on potential acquisition targets. Recently Clive has worked with Millward Associates at East Kilbride Shopping Centre and thecentre:mk.
